Right back to this blog business again. I don't really know what to say other than my shoot went really well and I got everything in the can.
The only day I had trouble with was the 4th day where I had slightly overscheduled but that didn't matter as I just rescheduled it for the following night which the crew were happy with. So yay.
Into the edit now. Finally finished a rough cut. Struggling with a couple of scenes in terms of how to cut them from which characters perspective. Also there is dialogue issues which, I will have to clean up with ADR but no biggie as they are Tims lines and he didn't have to head back to wellington so thank fuck for that.
Trying my best to make this film as good as It can be but when your on limited time and have a very limited budget it Is hard to make high quality films that can compete against the shit that comes out of the fresh shorts programme oh well I guess my film isn't KIWI enough. Obviously needs more rugby and some kid being beaten up by his family. Or some hipster bullshit from Wellington.
Rant over.
Here is a Still from my film.
Here is another Still from Still Is the Night.

Week 23, 24 and 25? or some shit I have no idea
It has been three or so weeks since I last blogged. Been far to busy working on everyone elses films and trying to organise my own.
Everything has gone well so far. The performances are spot on. The Mis en Scene is perfect. The Cinematography is beautiful and it is coming together well.
Last day of shoot today and then I can start editing. Really looking forward to the editing process. The dream of making this film has haunted me since new years and it is finally a reality. In the words of Tim Immortalised on film, celluloid or digital or whatever. Forever.
Working with the actors has by far been the most fun I have had all year. Playing with the script. changing lines and adlibing on the spot has been very experimental and creative and the way I most like to work.
Having such high calibre actors for this project has certainly helped my confidence in directing and my confidence with the material of the script.
So finally a positive note in a blog.
Bye see you next week maybe

I'm really adverse to these things week something now
So I'm sick of being logical about stuff and it turns out shit from over thinking things. Sometimes you just need to do. I'm applying this school of thought to my end of year project.
The script is done. Im not changing it. I'm happy with it. The characters goals are clear and the reasoning behind their actions make sense in the context of the film.
People don't act logically they are irrational, emotional messes.
I want the film to happen organically now. Let whatever will lay. I feel the film will be better if I let the actors do their own things with guidance on how I see the characters they will bring their ideas to the table which may open up scripting changes on the day etc depending on their intonations.
ETC ETC ETC KEBORAD RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!
Pissed off at everyone
Yours sincerely
Sick of trying to help everyone

Week 20 21 and 22 YAYYYY I keep falling behind with these because I have better things to do than blog
SO been a while again yay.
I have been busy organising locations and props etc for the TVC's I am creating for SIT.
And have finally found a Petrol station to shoot at and a cafe and a bowling alley so 50% of locations have been sourced.
Need to art direct the petrol station as it is a bit small looking. Couldn't take photos of the place as I don't have a smart phone. Can't afford one. WE COOL.
So probably won't take photos unless I take my camera which I will next time im there.

Week 16, 17, 18 and 19 all at once haha
SOOOOOOOOO super behind in this whole blog thing.
Woops
My Bad :)
Essimer is looking better and better with each new cut. So pleased that we got most if not everything we need to cut it with. A few minor pick ups are a potential but nothing major which is excellent.
My personal project is cooking with gas finally. It's now up to it's 8th draft which it is getting better and better with each rewrite. It's true what they say Writing is Rewriting :D
And finally I'm working on these TVC's for SIT. Im quite enjoying the challenge of making a TVC that isn't going to be shit and plain and stock standard commercial bullshit.
Will keep you posted with more.
Sorry about the 4 weeks of no Information :) But have been super busy.

Week 15 The last post for the semester
Well it is down to the last week of the semester and I have almost finished all assignments. One big assignment is left to finished. RESEARCH.......This has been one of the hardest but most rewarding assignments that I have done.
It has been really enjoyable to analyse one of my favourite film directors Paul Thomas Anderson. Analysing his films under auteur theory has uncovered some interesting themes in his work that I did not expect. I'm still curious as to if it is conciously done of unconciously done.
The Bonds of Essimer has almost got a rough cut. It should be done the first week back from holidays.
I feel as tired as Joaquin Phoenix looks in The Master. I need a holiday.

We did it yay. Now into post
So I'm catching up on two weeks of blogs today as I have been very busy catching up on assignments and getting everything ready for the end of semester.
I really enjoyed working with the actors on the set. They each had different needs and different ways of doing things.
So will get into the edit soon and cut together a rough cut
Bonjour until then.

Week 12 All quiet on the film front
Alas another week passes where we cannot film due to weather and several factors. I really wish we had more time in pre production instead of being thrust into filming when we weren't quite prepared. Its really frustrating as I want the best product possible. But working with the given time it is an enormous task that has really challenged my resolve and I'm sure many of the crews resolve also.
We are finally shooting this weekend. All though it is not a great deal of script that we are shooting it will be one shoot day closer to finishing.

Week 11 The calm before the eventual storm\

Week 10 The Revision
So in the weekend we shot a third and a bit of the game cinematic. However the weather change that happened on saturday has forced us to re evalute our approach to the shot. So we have to shoot everything inside a "sound stage" that should be fun.
VFX is scary. I feel like a headless chicken but i'll figure it out.
Greenscreen Fail....... This was our first test.
What do you think????
Success?
This was the best joke on the set.

Week 9 The Final Countdown
This is the last week leading up to shooting. Just finished doing a job as 2nd Assistant Director on a local short film Click Clack Click. It was a very interesting couple of days learning all the paperwork aspect of 2nd ADing, looking after the actors.
The actors were all very cool people and really nice to work with. Lots of Props, Costumes, Sets being constructed at the moment. Very very proud of everyone's efforts thus far. We are getting things done at a good rate.
Feeling very excited about the shoot.

Week 8 The Reckoning
So this week our Rialto 48 hour team got into the dunedin finals I still am unsure as to how I feel about this. Probably pretty nervous about the night but it should be ok I'll be there next saturday.
The Cinematic pre production is in full swing with this weekend being our first bash at props, costumes and sets. I am very confident in my team as they are all very professional and highly motivated to make this project a reality.
I can't wait to see what the crew come up with.

Week 7 Grounding down the script
Hey all this week we managed to get the script finalised. On monday me and callum and seth had a writing session, we finalised all the details and figured out a cool way to tie the main characters together more cohesively. By making the antagonist the very person who made the protagonist the very person they are. This really increases the overall weight of the script I think. So I took the script to the storyboard artists and they managed to storyboard three of the pages so far. I've been applying all the work I did in second year in film history about story structure. e.g. Vladimir Propps character traits and story structures. Also working in the old greek myths. Next week we should have the storyboards done and the art team will be under way with their various tasks of constructing the props and the costumes.
See ya next week

Week 6
So I've been away for the last week off on a short film shoot. The Ballad of Maddog Quinn. WOW what a fun and rewarding experience. I learn't so much working with the many different departments on the shoot. Lots of lessons learn't about crewing, producing etc. Day one was rehearsals that was interesting to watch. Day two was the first day of the shoot I had to cover for the sound recordist because he couldn't be there was very stressful all the pressure to get the good sound. Day three was an epic day of wrangling extras and cast members etc. Day four was another interesting experience because I was thrust into the camera dept as Second Assistant Camera. Scary working under such a great and professional DOP and a very experienced 1st AC. The fifth day was much the same as the fouth but man how many different set ups we had to do was unreal but we did it and everything went well and looked amazing. The sixth day of shooting was wicked because I was tasked with shooting the BTS (Behind the Scenes) which was so much fun with all the awesome things happening on set. The seventh and final day was the best it went off with a bang. Sorry I can't go into detail as it's confidential the script etc. But that was my fun and crazy and learning filled week.

The Fifth Post Week Five
So Week five has come about. We are trying to finalise the script. In it's third draft now. The problem we have is that we have taken away the prophecy element and trying to rework it so that the slaver has a reason to save a Kid in a post apocalyptic wasteland. I see what the problem is but it is quite difficult to explain the backstory and the relationship with the kid and the slaver in such a short amount of time.

The Fourth Post. Week Four
So it is the fourth week of this project we are now down to two ideas. Competing with each other. The writing teams task was to smash the two ideas/concepts together in order to create a new Idea from the inital concepts incorporating themes codes ideas images into what would finally be the game we make.

Third Post week three
As we move on from week to week our ideas are slowly being dwindled down. We are now down to two concepts. We must all go off and expand on these concepts and pitch them back to the group. I have a very cool idea in mind for one of the concepts but I'm not sure how much we can divulge on the net. So far there isn't a great amount that we can do until the idea is selected and the writing team can get on with writing the script.
Signing off for this week. Tune in again next week for more updates hopefully there will be more progression. :)

The Second post week two
So I have been delegated the roles of Director, Script editor and Editor for this game project. Exciting stuff.
Our production name has been chosen this week too. Physical Realm studios.
Nervous feelings.
Many different feelings.
I really like everyones ideas that they are coming up with more ideas the better.
The common thread of themes it seems is Dual worlds, fantasy, sci fi and RPG.
I feel like we should really push the boundary of what a game is.
New game mechanics.
Stories that are actually stories.
Cinematic.
Anyway that's it I guess. No more thoughts?
Maybe more thoughts at the end of the week.

Day 1 of the many to come
So I'm supposed to be writing this blog thing. How do you blog what do you blog about. What even is a blog. I have no idea what I'm even writing about.
First idea for a game is Elemental. The idea is basically four nations each representing different elements, Wind, Fire, Water and Earth.
So you level up and upgrade your character rpg style and eventually the game leads into a Real time strategy like total war.
Who knows I'm not sure I'm not a game developer.
Adam.
